Veiled's are the more robust of the above species (ie they can withstand husbandry mistakes a little better).
Jacksons don't handle mistakes very well at all from what I read.
My advice would be a veiled. Females have a few extra requirements including the laying bin. Females lay eggs...
The only experience I can relate to this is:
recently our geckos started eating the sphagnum moss in their moist hides. I noticed because one night cleaning the cage there was a pink (or very diluted red) water-like substance dried into the paper towl along with a poo with lots of moss in...
I'm afraid I have no experience with a male (and only 3 months with a female!).
I know blood in stool is bad: parasites, infection, internal cut, impaction. Didn't know about the hemipene blood.
The cricket doesn't look digested at all! Was the dark piece of poo good consistency? Did you...
I had no luck at sexing them!
(You know, if there was a book about my life - that'd be the title :P)
Beautiful creatures! Look forward to seeing the updates.
I see your 'JannB's blog' and raise you a 'Dez's laying bin video': https://www.chameleonforums.com/laying-bin-set-up-educational-video-77225/ :)
From everything I read Supergirl is most probably right. Although it may be a while before she actually lays, you should get yourself set up and...
Thanks for sharing, Dan :). Have read so many positive things about outside time. I can see the benefits of doing both.
Now all we need to do is wrangle us some sun-shine :D
Nice to meet you, Mike. This is a lovely forum to be a part of! Good luck with your future chameleon. What locale of panther are you considering?
We keep two leos as well :). Love FJ's pattern.
Hmm, personally I would take him to the vet ASAP. Try and take the stool with you to have a fecal done (can be kept in a zip loc bag in the fridge).
The danger is that he's maybe eaten something sharp or indigestible.
EDIT: On second read of your post, maybe just the fecal is necessary. If he...
Lol :) Our female veiled is the same. When we open her door to feed her or clean poo this is all we usually see:
Just makes the occasional interaction we have that bit more special :D
I realise it may be a bit of a pain since you'll have to repeat some of your first post, but would you mind filling out the standard form and including some pics if possible:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often...
May I suggest some more foliage at the top and more horizontal walkways?
Some extra foliage could be given by either some fake plants (as long as MJ doesn't try to eat them) or a hanging basket (maybe an umbrella plant or pothos).
Extra walkways, either some branches from outside, sterilised...
Well, I'm no expert, but since she's still quite young & since you couldn't feel any lumps in her tummy I would guess she's just a bit adventurous. So long as you have your laying bin accessible for her at all times (and keep an eye on her for any more changes) you should be able to relax a...
