He is definitely up there age wise! Congratulations on good husbandry. He may be falling due to age, but I am not that experienced with older chameleons. However I have read about younger chams with MBD doing a lot of falling. My first cham had MBD and had a lot of difficulty with walking...
I am not sure about the placement. I think I have seen people do both some on the bottom and some people use heat tape on the sides. I just know that the warmer they are the more they breed. Using no heat is very much the reason for slow going.
I do not keep my breeders and feeders separate; I keep them all in a big plastic tub. You can order egg crates from some of the sponsors or just google egg crates. I actually just saved mine over the course of time. They do not get as gross as with crickets so they last longer than you might...
This would be my ideal setup:
dragon strand cage 24x24x48 with ledges
Tropic Blaze Quad lights from Light Your Reptiles
Mist King automated misting system (I have an aquazamp but I think the owner is having some issues) I love my Raindome.
Dome light hood/halogen bulb for heat...
I strongly recommend you look at the care resources and follow those instructions for your chameleon. The commercial Flukers products are not very good in terms of gutloading the crix. You can check out the following link to find information on homemade gutload or reliable premade gutload. You...
You should not make soft bodied insects a staple part of the diet. The majority of the feedings should be crix/dubias, interspersed with various worms. I feed dubias and crix (mostly dubias thank goodness CJ will eat those). Then I rotate silks, horns, phoenix and butters on the days I do not...
Your temps are a little low I think. Also your lighting schedule is too short. It needs to be 12 hours on/12hours off. No lights at night not even heat lamps. You do not need fancy basking lights. A regular incandescent or halogen bulb will work for heat. I think your UVB might be a little...
YES yes yes, please wear gloves and even a long sleeved shirt to use this stuff. I recently had a call at the Poison center with a guy who did not wear gloves. He got the foam all over his hands and arms. He required surgery to remove it. I can only imagine his recovery was difficult and painful!
You can put silks and horns in fridge overnight to slow growth but you can't keep them in there. Putting them in the freezer killed them for sure. I keep my horns, silks and Phoenix worms at room temp all the time. I don't feed supers or mealies so I can't speak to that. I keep butter worms in...
Your chameleon really needs to get to a vet. I would keep him warm, but not too close to the lamp; be very careful trying to give him water as it could go into his lungs and just make things worse. I really don't think there is much you can do for him at home. Maybe one of the more...
Do not worry about your English, you are doing just fine. I would lay off handling him for a while, even though he seems docile it could be stressful as he adjusts to a new home. As long as he is drinking he will eventually eat. If he is taking food that you left in the cage then another...
Ficus are notoriously finicky. They do NOT like being moved. They will drop their leaves until they are dead. The best care for a ficus IMO is to leave it in the store and get a schefflera. They are much hardier plants. I will never get another ficus.
That is great, none of my chams until CJ would even give Dubia's a second look. I don't really mind crickets they are just stinky. I feed my guy hornworms, silkworms, butterworms, wax worms, phoenix worms in addition to dubias and crix. I never feed mealies or supers. Many keepers do but they...
CJ seems to have settled in to his new home quite nicely. We had a bit of an altercation the other day though. I thought he was stuck on something up:eek: in the corner of his cage because I could not see what he was holding onto. I tried to rescue him (unnecessarily) and here he was just...
I have seen both but what I have now seems to work just fine. As far as the Biobubble, I think it looks like it could be incorporated into a free range habitat. However I do not think it would be appropriate as an outdoor habitat. There is nothing that could prevent the cham from escaping the...
I would not use a 40 gal breeder for any insect actually. Dubia's like any roach like things dark so a glass tank would not be appropriate. Add to that it would be cumbersome to clean. While Dubia's are easier to keep than crickets they do need to have the enclosure cleaned out periodically...
I run my mister every two hours during the day. I give a long misting first thing in the morning and later in the day. Then shorter times in between just to make sure there is drinking water available. I would not let it run at night. You want to let the cage dry somewhat to avoid mold and...
