I haven't had much time to look through this part of the forums but I found this article last night and was absolutely shocked, but sadly not surprised: from my travels I've seen this is the unavoidable norm in Africa. I'm pretty sure that the guys who collect the chameleons get practically...
Sadly he started to show signs of discomfort today, besides for lighter greens during soaking hes a dark black colour most of the time. Also from his tummy massages I can feel that hes more bloated to the point that his skin is tight. I've stopped giving him liquids other than the electrolytes...
Our beetles aren't as pretty as yours, dull brown. But I'm sure you are familiar with that sound of droning wings slamming into a wall and then having to find the damn thing before the girlfriend will let you get back into bed :)
I've been using the sink full of water starting with my elbow...
I have seen him straining to defecate on more than one occasion, it was the deciding factor to give him the oil. I've checked with the vet and hes just too small for surgery (about the size of my thumb).
There are a lot of flying beetles around this time of year (we call them Christmas beetles)...
I do have him in a thermostat controlled room now at optimal temps.
The only reason we noticed him was because he was so bloated.. That was the reason he was taken out of the tree and then only after 2days of observation did I feel pretty certain it was in fact impaction. His bloated-ness and...
I've been given a juvenile dwarf chameleon to nurse which is badly impacted. Hes about the size of my thumb, so far to small for surgery. Besides the impaction he is still very healthy, drinking frequently and eagerly ate the one small dusted cricket I allowed him (to get some decent nutrients...
Try providing different perches to sleep on. The ground might be where he feels safest compared to the rest of the available roosts.
One of these should provide him a place he can be completely hidden if he chooses.
Been crazy busy working on a film but finally had a chance to look through the rest of my photos. Found a really nice one of the damaranum male all fired up.
Look at the stem of the ficus leaf to get a sense of scale, little guys were tiny!
Certainly a genetic anomaly with the female, looks a bit like shes been crossed with a gorilla :) Sure she's a little sweety! Both would be more than welcome to come live out their days happy in the sun, if they were in my part of the world.
The idea of feeding the female off due to a...
I call shenanigans on this one. For starters the hue/saturation in that photo is all wrong, even for a photo of a photo.
Bit of a yeti photo :) When things are to good to be true...
I'm feeding him every 2nd day: 4 or 5 adult crix or 1 big roach but since hes stopped eating as much there is food in his tub most of the time.
I think hes getting a bit fat to be honest. I'll start reducing amounts and replan his feeding schedule.
Thanx for the input!
George has been eating a lot less of late, no other change in behavior, he is well hydrated and as active as ever (well maybe basking more than he used to, lazy bugger). He has always eaten as much as I gave him but hes been leaving crickets in his tub, sometimes for days.
I'm guessing he is...
