Beardies

She named it Opal. I hope it is a girl so its name fits. Haha. She asked them to feed the babies and stood there watching, seeing which one was the most active and dominant and picked the one she thought was the strongest. It was the CUTEST thing to watch!

So, I bought some of the mantids pods from Nick, and I have one in each of my chameleon cages.....my question is, can I put one in with my beardie as well?? Google says they cant digest the spiney legs of the praying mantis, but says nothing about these small dudes.

Gorgeous girl.....
The white underbelly spot are stress marks. It’s probably because he’s just getting acclimated but it’s something to watch out for
Yeah, anytime I put my phone near.
Ill watch though, thank you.
Any other tips you have, pour them forward. Im eager to learn

Awwww. She is so cute

Out of curiosity, what's your enclosure look like?

It is a work in progress. As my daughter earns her allowance she upgrades and adds a little at a time.

Is this okay for now? Opal has a t5ho 10.0 bulb (a larger one is being delivered so it can span the entite width of the enclosure) a heat bulb that stays between 100-110 (took this pic in the morning so it hadnt warmed up quite to there) and the cool side stays around 80. Opal has 2 boxes and a "fish decoration" that he/she can escape to for privacy. There is a water dish cause I was told he/she *may* drink from it. A bowl for veggies and a dish for feeders...though the crickets wont stay of course lol. We use nod3 for 6 days and then a d3 alternating with multi vitamin on the 7th day and a probiotic 2 times a week, monday and Thursday.

Anything I should vhange or you want to know?? This is our first beardie and want to do it all right.
Thanks for asking @Ares05

It looks pretty good actually.

Be sure to keep the water very shallow. When my beardies were tiny babies I found they did drink from their water bowls sometimes, and they would normally get inside the bowl while doing so.. so you don't want it to be too deep.

Everyone has a different supplement schedule for beardies, lol. I alternate d3 and no d3 calcium every feeding for 5 days of the week. Then I use a d3 free multivitamin for the last 2 days. This is for the babies. Not too much different for the adults except it will have to be adapted as adults normally do not get fed every day.

I use the schedule from this website.. Both of my beardies are doing well on it.

When they are babies about 70-80 percent of their diet should be feeder insects, the rest healthy greens and veggies. As the they age the percents switch to something more along the lines of 30-20 percent insects, and then the rest is greens.

She looks very healthy!

Arcadia suggests uvb bulb only span 3/4 of the enclosure. We use 36” for our 48” enclosure. We also don’t keep water bowls in the enclosures. But we bathe them 1-2 times a week. Keep an eye on humidity in the enclosure.

We started with a beardie (Groot) a couple years ago... then the chameleon came this past August. It's nice you have both too!
