Help!!! Veiled attacked by my cat

Stungun worked on my wife's cats back when they tried to get my son's geckos.....

So who were the idiots who would attack a keeper over a cat getting a cham and then coming here looking for some help? I'd say ban them since they have nothing to contribute with that attitude.

Oooh, first time I've seen any controversy from you :D
I'm glad the moderators give second chances on this forum myself........otherwise most of the best people wouldn't be here now either....:)
I agree of course that to point fingers of blame is pretty foolish. Cats are some real sneaky predators......once or twice a cat has even crossed my path without me seeing it in time.....hahahaha.....

Have you tried feeding your cham bugjuice? When my cham was doing really bad, what I did was I killed a cricket by crushing it with tweezers. Then I cut it's head off and squeezed the insides of it into my chams mouth. That way it won't have to digest the skin of the cricket which seems to be the hardest part to digest.

his cham has already passed away :(

Let me apologize for my attack on NatureButch, I know I have no room to say anything negative to anybody on here, after what happened to my boy. Everyone has been so sympathetic and concerned with Picasso, I truly and honestly appreciate every person on this forum, I was out of line and acted on my pain and horror out of what happened to that baby cham, after reading about the cat attack yesterday I felt anger over what happened.....I love cats and have had several before and would like to get another someday, if I offended any cat person or cat owner I do apologize to you also, I never have thought that any cat owner on here would ever put their cham in danger, again let me say how sorry I am for the loss and sorry for the attack on you NatureButch, also to all that I may have upset on these forums.

I also would like to apologize to NatureButch for my cold and nasty remarks, I hope I didn't hurt your feelings

I am glad my post was deleted, I was going to delete it myself after thinking about what I said, but it was already gone.

I too was reacting more then thinking!! I have had cats, and still love them, but do not want to get another.
I know what damage a cat can do when it gets it's mind made up and have lost a few caged birds from cat attacks.

I am so sorry this happened to you and hope you don't think ill of me for my rudeness :(

Cage

So sorry to hear about your veiled! I too have cats and have always feared of them getting into the cage. I did some reaserch knowing that lots of chameleons need a screen cage so I immediately took glass out of the equation. However, my personal favorite supplier exoterra makes a glass cage with a system on the front that uses something like convection to pull in air and push it out the top. It also has a sort of "cat proof" closing system with an optional lock feature. Check them out at exoterra.com. They come in all different sizes and my chameleon looks about the same size as yours ind I don't have the largest cage but she still fits in their perfectly. So sorry about your chameleon and hope he/she makes it through!:D

Thanks for the support and apologies.

Thank you to those of you who have expressed your condolences and apologies. I didn't know about the other cat attack. I knew I was opening myself to those types of comments but I so desperately wanted to help my cham. Regardless, no hard feelings.

BTW, when I said i went to "kick the cat out" of my room, it wasn't literal. I actually have a large water bottle that I use to squirt the cats and spray down my cham.

I remain heartbroken over losing Beau. One of the reasons both chams are near my bed is so that I can keep an extra special eye on them. I am guessing that I didn't hear him hiss because of the wind outside with the blizzard given this happened at the height of the blizzard winds. But I heard the cat going back to the cage, which is why I woke up. I let him down though.

I do have another cham - female Jackson named Twiggy. The reptile show is in a few weeks. I don't know if I will be ready to get another veiled by then. But I do want to get another.

Again, thank you for the support.

Really? Instead of offering advice to potentially help this owner and his pets, perhaps giving tips on how to prevent this from happening in the future (since probably most of us live with reptiles and cats/dogs), most of you just decide to get on your high horses and pretend that you have never made a mistake.

Really nice, guys. Laurie, I think perhaps we should close this thread.

To the OP, I am very sorry this happened and I am so sorry that he passed.

Agree with you 100% these things can happen its noones fault but those pics are soooo sad i feel terrible after seeing them:( im glad i dont have any other pets so this isnt an issue for me.

Naturebutch, you couldn't have known but a few days someone shared with us a very horrific injury a chameleon had sustained at the hands of a cat and I think it has many of us still a little shocked and more cautious about our other pets. But not even the best of us can predict and prevent every mishap, and it takes a brave person to admit that something went wrong and seek help to fix it. I would be lying if I said that none of my pets had ever gotten themselves injured by something that I could have prevented (I have a dog who went through thousands of dollars in surgeries to remove things like socks and underwear that he has swallowing whole).

At any rate, I hope you still feel welcome and comfortable contributing to this forum and I wish you lots of luck with Twiggy. And if you still need cat-proofing tips I'm sure members have creative ideas that they would be willing to suggest - Although I really like the tape idea, that probably works great both for cats and for escaped insects!

im glad to hear that you arent off the band wagon for chams! we cant prevent every mishap and im just glad you were there to do all you could for Beau.
we would love to see and get to know your girl twiggy(thats a really cute name) and hope to see more posts about your future chams and twiggy!! :)

So sorry to read this news. Accidents happen and we learn from them. Keep the faith and we would love to see pics of your girl! This is a great community to be a part of.

Sorry very sorry for your loss. I did not see the comments that were deleted, but I know emotions run high in times like these. I am guilty of saying things in the heat of the moment and then regretting them too. I think we all have done this at some point in our lives. You sound like a very nice person who had a very tragic event happen. My heart goes out to you and I hope you will stick around as a member. It really is a fun place to be and there is so much to learn about these amazing creatures. Lots of great people with tons of knowledge and experience.

My he rest in peace

I am sorry for your loss but at least his fight is over and his pain is gone, don't beat yourself up over this I know it's hard not to but these things do happen and it is never anyones fault. Wishing you the best Frederick and Jacque my cham.:(

Again, I am so very sorry for the angry post I posted the other day to you, I'm even more sorry for the loss of Beau and I'm sure you are devastated over this, my heart goes out to you and wish you nothing but the best with Twiggy and please continue to post on this forum.....thanks for accepting my apologies and know my heart his hurting for you.

I agree, after just having read a post where a cat attacked a baby veiled cham and seeing the pic of his poor little leg dangling by a thread, I just erupted with blind emotion and posted some mean comments.
By the time I realized what I had done, I went in to delete it but it was already gone.

Cats are very clever and patient. You may think they are cool with your smaller pets, but dont count on it.
