i got my chameleon today and the poor guy is freaked out i dont think he likes me everytime i look at him he turns black and gets all tense

Dont worry, mine was like that to me. Give him a couple days to get used to the place. Im sure he/she will love you.

Thats because he needs time to adjust to his surroundings.
Try and keep the interactions (watching closely and opening his cage...etc...) to a minimum.
Once he gets used to everything then he should calm down

sweet thank you guys i was scared he was sick or something poor little guy seems to be tramatized from the trip from flordia to colorado and he isnt eating or drinking

Try the best you can to get him to drink offer him plenty of water but make sure the cage dries out between mistings. He can go quite a little bit without food. He should be wanting to drink by at least tomorrow.

Amy was like that when I first got her. All I had to do was look at her and she'd go all dark and run and hide, lol! Now she comes right out of her cage onto my hand when she feels like it! Be very patient and move slowly around him. He needs time to adjust to you, your house and his new cage.
