ignorance of my peers

many of us have been owning chams for years. but at one time we were still ignorant and did stupid things trying to take care of them. when i got my first veiled, i used colored construction paper to cover the bottom of his cage. i did so hoping to "teach him new colors." needless to say, it didn't work. anyone else do anything stupid as a new cham owner?

At least it was nothing dangerous to the chameleon.
This one had me laughing. It is going to be tough to top.

When I had my first cham a LONG time ago, I used to hang tie dye shirts behind his cage so he would learn the pattern and colors.

Agreed.

I kept my very first chameleon, A WC female T. sternfeldi, in a 'naturalistic' aquarium. I was living in a remote place in the UAE at the time, and I had no access to any information whatsoever. Surprisingly, she thrived and even gave birth!

I remember trying to put her on a yellow duvet, hoping she would turn yellow .

EDIT: This is : adamkwas :

I don't know if this counts as being stupid, or being a little kid but when I had my first chameleon Henry, I thought I taught him a trick. When I held him and opened my mouth he would gape at me... :) I thought I was so cool because I taught the untrainable, until I was about 12 and realized he was just a meanie head.

The only thing I have is that I sing HEY MAMA by the black eyed peas to Molly, except I sing:
Hey Molly
This that beat that make you groove, molly
Get on the floor and move your tail, molly
We the blast mastas blastin out the drummy
So shake ya tail molly!

My first veiled, I would always forget to cover up the holes in the cage, so I would always find him free ranging in my room. Oops. :)
