Isis isn't pink

Nope, its just surprising that I bought a small male chameleon that had no colors or bulge when I picked him up. Its also a little frustrating that more people didn't comment on my last thread about her...

Sooooo, does anyone have any idea why he was so small compared to other males when he was younger? Or why his protral process is like non existent? Or why his colors were so late and why his lateral line is so broken? He also doesn't have a very large bulge for his age... When I got him he was smaller than my friends three month old female (who seemed small herself...)

Do you guys think I stunted his growth? Or maybe he's similar to laurie's smidge, except male? I feel bad now...

I've had him since December, so it's been between 3.5-4 months. He's actually just about doubled (possibly a little more) in the time I've had him. The tub he came in said he hatched on July 9th.

Texas: Yeah, I just hope I didn't hurt him...

By the pics on this thread https://www.chameleonforums.com/pan-isis-33685/
He looks like a 1.5 -2 month old male but its hard to judge his size in the pics.
Where did you get him from? He must be a runt if he is 8 months old.

He looks healthy. Start beefing him up. Give him some of those dubias you got over there. He will start growing. I swear mine looks like he grows every day. lol

When chameleon caretaker was selling their babies chameleons 101 bought some and I bought one from them. If he was 1.5-2 months in that thread then his brother must have been a monster... His brother was like 3.5 inches snout the vent or so... Well, from what I can remember.

Today I gave him as much as he could eat twice and he ate about 8 crickets and 8 or so 1/4-3/8 inch dubia

You may have gotten the runt of the litter... it happens.

Either way, "he" is very very small and I would suggest giving him as much as he will eat daily.... hopefully you can speed up his metabolism and give him a good growth spurt to catch up.

Don't forget to raise the temperatures slightly, assuming that you were keeping "him" as a "she" I am sure you had them lowered to reduce cycling.

In size comparison, my 6 mo. old Sambava looks to be around twice the size yours is, so perhaps a call to chameleons 101 or the chameleon company to recheck the DOB is in order.

For all we know they may have the DOB as the day the eggs started to hatch and yours may have hatched as long as a month later... which still does not explain the size issues, but helps when put into perspective that essentially you were starving him and he could not grow. ( please do not take that as being mean or malicious... im just trying to be informative)

In another sense, maybe now its wise to point out why I prefer to treat my chameleons with the same husbandry, regardless of gender. And though others may disagree to their hearts content, in this case the animal would probably be much larger and closer to full size.

I suggest switching up the Gutload weekly ( if this is not already done )
I would also suggest spinach as it has a high protein content for a leafy green. While mass protein such a dog food is not a good gutload ( well to keep crickets going cheaply until they are fed off is fine ) the spinach will be good to provide the protein he will need for the essential amino acid break down, which in turn will be a direct factor in helping him grow, as well as strength gain to compensate for hopefully growing quickly.

I say that because animals that experience a lot of growth very quickly, usually end up with strength problems as muscles have a hard time catching up. So in this case protein does play some importance. As does other nutrients, which should not be ignored as well.

Best of luck with you new guy, hope he does well.

Spinach is high is oxalates which bind to calcium. And though the protein would help with growth it would not help with calcium which would be bad while he is growing. I already use a ground nuts and stuff for protein.

Already raised the basking spot, but for the second half of the day he chills out in the plants so it didn't matter too much today...

i hope he does great for you...i know you said before you were saving up for a male panther...now you have one!!! lol....he is beautiful!!! is he the one from patron? i remember you messaging me and said you had a female from patron and that my Elliot and your girl were brother and sister...i dont remember so correct me if im wrong....i have pics of Elliot if you want to compare them size wise....Elliot hatched July 09....

Elliot is huge compared to... Uh Isis. The now nameless male is only 3.25-3.5 inches snout to vent. I did an official measuring today...

Sooooo, why his colors were so late

Sambava's take alot longer to color up, then some other locals. Most males take a year to start showing great color. Here's a male (brother) from the batch I think your friend bought from me. Hatched back in August. He just became active with the ladies. And I don't expect to see his great color for another six months.
