Male or Female?

Hello,

I am wondering what sex my veiled is. I was told by the pet store that it was too early to tell, however I am getting conflicting answers online about being able to tell from birth with the spur, if it's there.

Really need to see the back feet if its a male there will be a tarsel spur on the back of his hind feet. Like you see on this picture.

How old is that cham? I'm not sure the exact age on ours, but as you can see he's small. If HE is really a HE, would he have this anyway, at such a small age? I will try to get more pictures, although I think Pascal may be a Pascali...

its beautiful girl or no girl/ make shure if it doesnt have a spur that you get a laying bin.

Thanks so much, the humidity is good in his terrarium, and I mist 3x a day. Should I do even more than that?

I will get work on a laying bin just in case. I don't want anything bad to happen to him/her.

Thanks for your help, it's good to have such nice people to help out. They are awesome little reptiles.

We also have a bearded dragon and 2 Chinese water dragons. We love them, and the kids are learning so much about taking care of them, as we are.

Veiled chams if they are a male have the spur from birth. My little guy is actually about 8 months old. He is very small for his age due to a mishap when I moved him into his big boy cage. He was not able to find his food and did not under go the huge growth spurts that you normally see happen. I had to get him used to cup feeding but now he seems to be doing much better.

Here are a couple more. He/she was on the bottom of the cage today, but isn't she too young right now to lay eggs? At the pet store she was on the bottom of the cage just miming at the front window. She just 'pawed' at the glass for a long time. Is that normal?
The first picture makes me think Pascal is indeed a SHE! Oops!

Thanks so much! Mystery solved thanks to you guys. =) Now, I have to explain this to my kids, hehehe. This should be fun... and interesting! Pascal is now Pascali. :p

That is a female.. You are able to sex them as soon as they hatch out of the egg, you just gotta have a good eye cause they are pretty small.. Your girl isnt small at all, so if they weren't able to sex her, just shows they dont know much:rolleyes:

That's what I get from buying from PetSmart. At least now I know for next time, if there is a next time. ;) I am thinking about a Panther eventually from Screameleons, but I want to give it some time so I can learn more before I get a Panther.

haha. i didnt even bother to ask the people from petsmart. they dont know a lizzards tail from it toes.

Be sure you are prepared for egg laying and all that. Your husbandry now has to change. You'll want to lower a basking spot to around 80-85 and lessen the amount of food intake when she is an adult in order to reduce the amount of eggs produced. I believe Jann feeds Camille and Ellie like 5 crickets 3 or 4 times a week, i don't remember exactly what it is. Having a female is a very rewarding experience, specially if you breed her and see all her efforts come to life. Although not as colorful as a male, female veileds have some very beautiful coloration and are lovely little chameleons :)
