my lighting system

i have the exo terra compact top with 2 light sockets and the guy at pet store told me that if i put 2 lights in at 6 months age it could burn his eyes and make him blind... but i also really dont want mbd so is he correct? or does it not matter so much with the small bulbs not the long fluorescent ones?

I'm not understanding what your asking?? What kind of bulbs are you planning on using. So you want to use 2 uvb bulbs because your worried about MBD? 1 Repti- Sun/glo 5.0 shouldnt blind him but if you want to use two then that could definalty cause a problem.

I would return the lighting fixture to the store. Then go to your local Home Depot or Lowe's (whatever you guys have in Canada). Buy a dual linear lamp fixture. Install a ReptiSun UVB lamp 5.0 or 10.0 (if its a big cage) and install a plant lamp in the other socket. A plant light is typically 6500K color temp, sometimes higher.

At 6-8 months it would be good to replace the UVB lamp. UVB lamps lose UVB output as they are used.

If you are going to use compact bulbs only use 1, and you need to make sure that the fixture is atleast 1ft + away from him. I have the unfortunite experence of a compact bulb hurting my 4 month old veiled. It took over 2 weeks for him to recover. Make sure it is at a safe distance and you should be fine.

well if you look up the exoterra brand compact top for the cages it is the one that uses or at least has 2 bulb outlets for the coil uvb bulbs. i was told at this young if i use both outlets it could blind him or something and that i should wait till i upgrade him to the larger cage to put that second bulb in.

and i am using the repti sun 5.0 and the fixture is just ressting on the top of his cage but the plants and basking spot and stuff are a good 8 inches or so below the lights
