My new wild-caught veiled...he shows self-awareness via the mirror test

Again I am sorry if that offends you. It offends me, when people butcher proper English. This is a professional forum, and it states in the rules to speak in English. "Yall" is not English it is slang that is pure and simple.

It is not hard to speak properly and say "You All" which is what Yall means.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/yall Again, I'll fact check and source this for you. If you're going to call someone else uneducated you should at least have your facts straight.

Last I checked this was not a "professional atmosphere". It's an open public forum, hence the title Chameleon Forums. I have a job, a profession actually, where I work in a surgical setting, the last 5 years. You have no right, no place, no information to base your crass comments on. Like I stated, you need to stop. I speak proper English, I graduated top of my class. You're from the south, which in my experience means you should've been taught respect for others. Don't get tacky, don't attack those that are here for the right reasons

I am not attacking you. I told you I am sorry if that offended you, but in this professional atmosphere speak proper English that simple.

All FORUMS are meant to be a Professional Atmosphere. If you want to be in a non professional atmosphere there is Facebook groups for that.

You are correct we are here to share and help each other. In a Professional manner, I would never carry myself in any public forum that was not in a professional way.

Yep, its in Merriam Webster. Along with a bunch of other slang and butchering of the English laungage. http://cw33.com/2015/05/27/youll-ne...d-to-the-dictionary-clickbait-emoji-and-more/

For some even more laughter. Read the comments on the Y'all is Dictionary you linked.

What is even funnier is half of those people start with the fact they live in the south!

It really doesn't matter if MW added it or not. As I have stated, in general society the reality is using words like that makes you appear uneducated. I told you that, those comments will tell you that, any college English professor in the world will tell you that.

That is not to say there is anything wrong with using it with your friends. However in a Professional atmosphere would you say Yall? I doubt it.

Also google must have missed the memo, as Spell Check does not accept the word yall in any form. Furthermore the correct way to use that made up word is Y'all, so at least do that.

Except that the link you sent is not a source link, and Y'all is also in the oxford dictionary, cambridge dictionary, and dictionary.com. But I agree with @alphakenc and would like to agree to disagree and avoid arguing as it adds nothing to the conversation.

It is a source link, to the article about how MW added a bunch of words to the dictionary. such as Y'all, WTF, OMG, Meme, and a whole lot more.

That does not make the word proper English.

The dictionary you listed also added the same words, Any dictionary that includes WTF is not a good source material, just saying.

Anyway I agree I am leaving this toxic thread. sorry if you got offended you Kclarke, it was not my intent to offend you or anyone.

Thank you, and no worries. We're all on this forum for the same reason. I apologize for getting fired up myself. I appreciate all and any advice I can get from those on this forum. Special thanks @alphakenc for being mediator and bringing happy thoughts!!

Like I said it before, its like a lady walking in a shoe store trying to buy a pair shoes from us,and If we keep on telling the lady her old shoes sucks n ugly just because we want her to listen n buy the pair shoes from us,she will never ever buy it since we made her feel like a poop when she walking in the shoe store:)

Oh lord.... Haha! I can see your analogy though... ;):ROFLMAO:

I am Curious of @Chris Anderson's thoughts on this.

What you think Chris?

The bottom line is that in the information presented in this thread, @MarkP6644 has not shown anything close to resembling self-awareness or properly performed a mirror test, and unfortunately it is clear the OP has miss understood what self awareness is, and how to test for it using this technique. Among many other explanations of why the observed behavior does not show self awareness as claimed, chameleons use visual cues to decide whether or not to engage in territorial disputes. Such honest signals allow individuals to assess the likely outcome of a confrontation so they can evaluate whether it is in their best interest to engage in a territorial dispute or not. Seeing a reflection of themselves obviously creates a situation where the perceived threat appears equally matched. Given the size of the individual shown in the original post, the risk of miscalculating the interaction is great, so such a reaction could easily be explained as a submissive behavior to avoid a potentially costly, even life threatening, interaction with a large conspecific.

As for the bonding discussion, I personally don't use this word to describe the interactions @jannb has with her animals because I don't know that I think the underlying cause is the same in both directions. In other words I think the feelings Jann has to her animals that drives her to interact with them as she does is likely different from what causes the animals to behave as they do with Jann. In that sense, I don't think its reminiscent of a maternal or familial bond going in both directions. I prefer to describe it as Jann having an excellent rapport with her animals, whereby she treats them with respect and is able to condition them to not recognizing her as a threat, recognizing her as a source of food, etc., not preceiving her interaction with them as negative. I don't mean this in a way so as to marginalize Jann's interaction with her animals by any means. Quite the opposite, I think being able to develop that type of rapport with chameleons is extremely difficult (I don't think they generally are prone to this under most circumstances), and I think Jann is incredibly cautious and respectful with her animals, which shines through in her ability develop these interactions with her animals. In general though I err on the side of the more typical response seen in chameleons and caution people against assuming they can have/are having interactions with their animals that will not be stressful.

Chris

What a mess this place has been lately, I am amazed. I took a break thinking it couldn't get any worse.

OP, the only information and "experiment" that you have presented is how to cause copious amounts of unnecessary stress to your animal. Fantastic job. *slow clap*

The amount of newbies that come in here thinking that they can insult the greatest sources of information that the internet has to offer as soon as they realize they are wrong is astounding. At least I hope, deep down somewhere beneath the troll heart, that you have realized you are wrong. But I wont hold my breath.

I wish a moderator would move all of these recent posts to a place clearly labelled "satire" so that new keepers doing their best don't learn how to make mistakes.

Now that I got that out of my system...
I accidentally started using the word (or not word) "Y'all" due to being friends with so many american's online.

When I accidentally drop it, my family looks at me like I've lost my space ship.

I have family in California that give me the same look so I see what you're saying! I think especially being born and raised in Texas it's a very common word used and I use it myself. Even in my professional life(working in a diagnostic eye clinic with 3 ophthalmologists and 1 optometrist) nearly everyone uses it and we think nothing of it. I can totally understand why others hear it though and think "eh" but it's common place here! :)(y) I did like your post though and I'm curious where you're from? So many on here are from all over, it's interesting to hear where everyone's from...:)

I'm from California but have relatives in texas.

My grandparents are from the south. I've been known to say y'all and throw a southern twang on a few words. Especially after a few beers.
