Guys So I walked into petco today and they have 3 little veiled and 2 Jackson chameleons in the cage and I'm jus there like seriously I tried to speak to the manager but everyone was busy and I jus spoke to a regular employee and told them that they couldn't be in the same cage but it honestly jus saddens me to see this and jus hate that they are not knowledgable about what they have. So guys what are your thoughts?

makes me sick! I walked into a petco the other day and they actually had a female panther in there! I've never seen panthers at petco so I took a closer look to see she was absolutely egg bound in a foot tall enclosure with NO laying bin and nothing but a turf floor... I spoke to the manager and told them she will probably die and they'll lose money unless they add a laying bin (figuring it'd trigger some kind of response to add money into the equation) and they said they did their research and that she didn't need one!

I stormed out super pissed after laying (no pun intended) into them... I therefore enacted my LIFETIME ban of all mainstream petshops!

Anyone else want to tag along?!

There's nothing you can do unfortunately, unless if the employees are understanding and nice. Or if you are an employee there. I remember as a kid, I wish I could work there. Now, I would be ashamed because of the treatment towards chameleons. If they don't take the time and care to properly take care of an animal they are selling, they don't deserve your business.

They set up all their habitats the same identical way and the set up is designed by a supposed veterinarian. The design is mandated by their corporate office. It has been a long standing sore subject on these forums. I am not sure anything can be done by anyone on the local level, so I really do not hold hard feelings towards them, I personally do not have to worry about those kinds of choices when it comes to my job but they could lose their jobs if they do not comply. It is also easy enough to say "find another job" but if one has to choose between setting up a cham habitat the wrong way or putting food on the table for my kids, I can empathize with that. The change would have to come from corporate headquarters. Maybe that is the place to start.

Petsmart and Petco have been discussed to death on the forums here, I don't know of any cham keepers that will even buy from them anymore.

Usually a person brand new to chams buys one, finds their way here, and then never goes back to either store after being taught some basics that those stores will never teach to their customers.

I agree with the poop treatment of chameleons at major chain pet shops. All we can do is not give them business. How many new unknowledgeable cham keepers start with, "I felt bad so I rescued a chameleon from Petsmart." If nobody buys chameleons from them they will find it not cost effective to sell them and stop carrying them, hopefully, altogether.

make a flyer that say" chameleons as betta fish can not be kept in groups at the same enclosure, the sight of an other individual will stress them to death" and tape it on their door

Yea guys I'm jus as mad as y'all our and I honestly tried my best to have the employees to separate them but there wasn't much I can do. And they had 3 veileds and 1 Jackson female and 1 jackson male all in the same enclosure:(

Petco makes me so mad too! I walked in once and they had hatchling veiled's and one of them had died. I am so done with them.

What about taking a picture of the bad setup and posting all over facebook along with a caption about abuse and neglect? Then send corporate the link to this forum.
