Some of you guessed it, officially diagnosed with gout

I know some of you are probably going to be like, I knew it🙂! But today at a vet appointment, Nachito was finally diagnosed with gout. After months of her uric acid levels seeming to be normal, today they came back as elevated.

so our currently plan of attack is to get some hornworms and silkworms and reduce the roaches in her diet, along with Allopurinol that the vet prescribed to be taken by mouth.
We were also advised to give soaking to help with hydration through the cloaca (pretty sure this is false), but we are going to forgo that.

The lump on her elbow was removed, apparently it was a clogged pore? So we will be keeping an eye on that!

And apparently the follicles were hard to find on ultrasound and the doctor doesn’t really know what going on with them. She didn’t think they were reabsorbed, but Nachito has gone down is weigh a little so maybe they are squished in there and hard to see?

Other than the uric acid levels and pore, the vet said there was nothing else significant on the X-rays and ultrasound.

Anyway! I’m hoping to get an email of the X-rays to share! If anyone has any more advice on gout or anything similar, it is welcome! Thanks for all the support as always!

FINALLY!!! I’m glad you finally got a diagnosis. Jeeze. Hopefully things start getting better from here!! I often think of you and Nachito. Any time you update, I update my sister who unwillingly knows about all of you guys on here 🤣 she knows Nachito as ‘the chameleon who is in college’

Omg that is so cute! Thank you 🥰

Even though the ideal is for nothing to be wrong, there is always some relief to finally get a diagnosis, or in Nachito’s case, two of them…kind of three if you count the absent follicles. Hopefully now beautiful Nachito can get some relief from her swollen ankles. 💗 💗💗
While I do wish she could be 100% cured, I agree, I’m glad I can finally do something to help with the swelling!

Also do you think a stable diet of silks and bsfl as staple with occasional hornworms and roaches here than there will be a good feeding plan for her? I pretty sure I remember it being mentioned that roaches could related to the problem of the levels?

Edit: also would mantis of some kind work? I’ve seen them mentioned around the forum for being good and possibly helping with small pests like gnats

Finally there’s a cause, she now can’t fool you anymore, I think she’ll a bit disappointed 😄😄. Luckily she now gets treatment and hopefully this will be a relief for her. Unbelievable with follicles, she keeps amazing us. Wishing you a quick heal up.

Pfffff….I still remember the bad news last year like yesterday, and see her now 🥰💪🏻

I know (don’t remember her name so quickly) a veiled with heavy MBD who had this as stable diet. Silks and bsfl are superb feeders. It’s a shame I can’t keep silks long enough alive 😢😢

I swear silks are hit or miss, if I can remember to feed them every other day and continue to clean their holder, then they last forever, but if I forget a for a day or two then they all die 😅
I love love love silks, it’s a shame how expensive they are though

Same here! One time they live on and one, other times they die within a week or two 😢

Moved you over to your thread. :)

Finally got her radiographs! I know this top one was taken last appointment

But this second one I’m not 100% sure but I’ll share it anyway :) I think it was from her appointment before this one

Honestly I’m surprised how little shows in it 🤔
Both of these have the same date of 11/26/24, so guessing they are both current. I don’t know what follicles look like on X ray, but I’m not seeing anything round or egg-like. While there’s no obvious mass of gout at her swollen wrist, gout crystals are brutal and I’d imagine even a tiny amount is bad enough. So glad you finally have your honey on a healing regimen. 💗

Thank you! I got totally mixed up with the threads lol! An old X-ray really showed the follicles well, so we are confused on what is going on…

Here is one old one,

And here is another

She is such a mystery!

According to the vet there is some density around the wrists that could have been gout? But I’m not 100% sure

Hey everyone, I’m just checking in with a question! I’m finally home from college for winter break after leaving Nachitos home for two weeks with my parents. I’m finally able to give her her medication, but I can’t tell if the dosage is correct. It’s 1 ml daily of the allopurinol. Does that seem like a lot? Cause it looks like a lot. Has anyone else had experience with medicine dosage like this?

I’ve already had expense with being prescribed an overdose amount of medication in the past with her, so I want to make sure it doesn’t happen again

1mL of what concentration? What does the actual bottle/instruction say?

That does seem like a big dose for her. What I can find says the standard reptile dosing is between 10mg and 50 mg per kilogram. I doubt that Nachito is much more than 100gm/0.1 kg. Is best to call the prescribing vet to double check.

I’ll call and double check tomorrow. I don’t know what’s up with our bad luck with these large prescription sizes or wrong doses. Thank you for the second opinions!

Called the vet, they confirmed that yes, while it does seem like a lot, it’s the right dosage for what’s going on with her. I’ll keep you all updated if anything happens and changes. Thank you all so much again for the support and amazing community!

Edit:

Gave her about half the medication before I gave up from stress. It’s a lot and I won’t lie, I’m terrified that I will or may have aspirated her. The medication is of the thicker type but still is runny.
