Update on Walker

I've been pretty quiet lately due to concerns with Walker's eyes. I've been worried sick and finally took him to a local vet in San Antonio.

I noticed towards the end of last week that he was closing his right eye.

I upped his mistings and gave him some warm shower time. I also applied some sterile saline. The eye opened and appeared "better".

Over the past couple of days he has continued to close the eye and now the left eye is acting up.

Today the vet gave him two injections and prescribed an oral baytril and eye drops. Here is the list from today.

Needless to say, Walker is not a happy camper after being manhandled and injected. Poor guy. I'll keep y'all posted. Please send positive vibes our way. Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear Walker's eyes are bothering him, and hope that the medicine really helps and they heal up as soon as possible!
What did the vet say was the cause?

No wonder you've been "quite" lately.... I truely hope this treatment will help him. Any thoughts from the vet as to what's going on?

aw max. i'm sorry to hear walker isn't himself lately. i hope for a full and fast recovery. keep us posted.

Thank you. He suggested a possible vit.A deficiency? I'm going to forward him the I/u for vit. a on the Repashy Supercal NoD.

I dont know what form Repashy uses but try searching for info on using fish liver oil for vitamin A. Jim Flaherty had some real good posts about it. The last couple issues I had like that have been solved in a couple days with the fish liver oil. It doesn't look like an infection to me and if he isn't rubbing it then cleaning it out may be unnecessary also.

I'm not finding a guaranteed analysis on these two supplements. Can anyone help with the vit. A aspect?

Nice input. How would you apply the fish liver oil? Directly drop onto the feeder?

Sorry that you guys are having bother buddy! I hope walker gets better real soon! I don't have any input or advice I'm afraid :( Do you supplement all of your chameleons the same way? I don't know how your supps would cause deficiency in one boy and not the other? All Chams are different I guess.

poor guy - hope he feels better very soon - such a very handsom fellow - maybe he is winking at the ladies ;) wishing you both the best :)

All they need is a tiny drop each day. I pop the capsule, squeeze a tiny amount out onto a q-tip and touch it to the roof of their mouth. Do it once for 3 days and I bet he'll be normal by Sunday/Monday.

Thanks, Kent! I did find some info on the liver oil and it says to be cautious about overuse. How do you feel about using it as Walker just received the vit. A shot today...

And thanks to everyone for your support. We'll get through this! Dang these diabolical chams and the stress that they cause!

I'm so sorry to hear that Walker is not doing well with his eyes, makes me sad to hear when one of these guys gets sick or hurt....keep doing as the vet says and I bet everything will be OK..keeping Walker in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh, I didn't see the vitamin A injection at first. It's all about the form of vitamin A. If the injection was in the form of retinol it should be the same. If not it's the same as the supplements you're already using. I would probably wait a few days before adding more to his system either way.

I swear he looks worse now after the vet visit. I wonder what effects the shots have on them? You know how we often times feel like crap after a shot? Poor fella... :(
