Veiled female MBD, possible constipation

Glad to hear she is doing so much better. A hissing chameleon is a healthy chameleon so it seems. :) You could potentially put a plastic cup of some sort in there maybe like a cottage cheese container with the dusted insects. If it needs to be shallow you could try cutting it down or perhaps putting cricket food on it like apples or oranges or something to make them want to be there. That way you can leave it in and not worry. I cup feed my guy but when I'm feeling lazy I put his cup down on the bottom of his cage and he goes for it just fine and that way I know he's getting some of the supplementation as well. Since they can't just run away from the dust. ;) Keep up the good work!

That's a good idea about the food in a cup so they go there. She seems to be hunting good, and I'll try to get video of her. I was going to this morning but my phone was about dead. Kids stole the charger, apparently we only have one? LOL

I woke up this morning to a Pascal in my face and the words Mom, Mom... Pascal wants you to hold her while I clean her cage... lol. She was so cute she even got a little bit of the Egyptian cham walk going on! It was slower than it used to be, but I'm racking it up to amazing either way. I was going to order her stuff on Black Friday but they didn't have any of the 38 gallons available, so I think I'll try it today and see if they're in yet. End of school if full of projects to complete!

On a funny note, we practiced injections in nursing class, honestly I've given thousand of injections, even before Pascal, for dogs, cats, cattle, horses, working phlebotomy in the hospital I draw blood all day everyday. So our instructor gives us each hot dogs to practice transdermal shots and I can't get my hot dog to bubble up, she says it's okay, you just need a little more practice, and I about died laughing. I said, nah, I think it's the hot dog, I've been doing this twice a day, then daily, then every other day for the last three months on a chameleon smaller than this hot dog, it moves and bites, and if I can get that, I think I'm good. She didn't even know how to reply to that, lol.

I would have loved to see your instructor, I mean what could she say? I am so pleased for you and Pascal. I still can't believe all the two of you have weathered together.:) I also enjoyed " mom pascal wants you to hold her while I clean her cage" , how did you ever get the kids to clean the cage? Just your average super mom!!! Oh I forgot, we haven't had pictures in a while.

Laurie, she didn't say anything! I don't think she even knew WHAT to say to that, lol.

Here is some video from today, she really, really hates the phone. We have more greenery and vines that we usually put in there, Hailey didn't get it all put back in when she cleaned yesterday because we scrubbed it up. It worked good for the video though as you can see her better. We just misted too so it was a little slick, but you guys got the whole cham walk! She moves a lot faster than that normally and she's not usually so flat and sucked in. She was made because I took her back out for a bath, lol. Without the minor delay in rear end movement and wide steps her motion is pretty normal other than a little slower, and of course her double elbows she is pretty "normal".

I don't know why they do the cham walk, I always assumed it was a defense mechanism as they live in the trees when the leaves blow or move they would have a shaking look, kind of like the cham walk, making them more "chamo"flauged lol, had to do it, than if they just ran. That was always my assumption. Tonight she'll get her shot and she's always right into the cage after that, so maybe I'll try to get better footage tonight. She's so naughty. We got our first snow of the year yesterday... so she'll have to wait quite a while again before outside time.

Opps... should link the video, lol http://youtu.be/1teQ1Ow8vjs

Shes loooking so much better! Im sure I missed it somewhere, but does she always stick her tongue out like that?
I know you were force feeding and that she had a lip issue, but wasnt sure if she kept her mouth open like that all the time.
Im glad shes getting better for you and showing some temper to ya!
GOod job!

She looks so much better.

The leaf walk is funny. I'm sure it's to confuse you into thinking she's just a leaf blowing in the wind, but in the context of the enclosure, it just looks so silly.

This is going to be a very great, inspiring thread we can point people to when they are faced with a case of MBD in their chameleon.

Camimom, her mouth is actually closed, that is the outside of her bottom jaw as her lip has never recovered, I clean it daily and keep it moist and it seems to be doing well. I've tried moving it back into it's proper place and holding it there to try to retrain the muscles, but didn't see any improvements. :( But if that's the worst of it, we're doing good! :D

This semester is almost over and then I'll try to get some good footage of her. I keep waiting for the 38 gal. retarium to come back into stock, but no luck yet... so we might have to opt for something different...

Oh wow. Ok. it looked like her mouth was open. Haha, You can order cham cages off of petco's website, I know you don thave any local by you, but they can ship it to your house.
I was going to get my big adult cage for my veiled off of petco's website before I decided to free range him.

If the lip thing bothers you or her a vet could probably put a stitch or two to keep it in place. The scar tissue would keep it there permanently after the stitches break down. It may not return it to completely normal, like the sides may droop some, but it would be closer...

I thought about that, but I don't know if it's worth it. My main concern is that the tissue there stays healthy and we can prevent any break down and such on it. I think for now... we'll let it be. I do wonder if she would be happier with it repaired though, she seems to be more active and eat a little more after I clean it, but that might just be me thinking that, or that she's just angry that I was mess with with it.

She's getting ever more feisty. It makes me wonder how sick she was when we got her, does anyone know how long it take a juvenile cham to develop full blown MBD? She has never been this feisty, she's been fighting me to drink, last night she even lounged and snapped at me, lol. I just laughed at her and proceeded. Once the drops hit her mouth she's like oh yea, I was thirsty... but before then it's like playing catch me if you can with the syringe. I think she gets to worried about what I'm going to do to her with my hand in there.

She's super fast, eating like a champ. Yesterday I put new crickets in, she likes the new ones, they wander around in a daze and are easy to catch, lol. She hung over, off her plant holding on only with her hind legs to catch one and ate it up. So apparently her is much, much stronger than before. Everyday she amazes me a little bit more.

It sounds like she continues to improve! Are you only giving her water with the syringe or are you giving her other things too? I'm thinking she should be drinking on her own now. I understand that it's reassuring to know how much she's drunk.

I never see her drink off the mist drips so I've been keeping up the syringe watering. I'll totally up for suggestions on a water system!

And this is what happens when I post while I'm on the phone... LOL

It will probably be easier to wait until you have her big girl cage. If you're buying a mesh cage (pvc pipe with mesh all around) you'll find it's very easy to set it up over a rubber storage drawer so you can mist and drip away.

I got her new cage ordered today, I had a heck of a time finding the 38 gallon reptarium, apparently most places are having some issues with the supplier? When we get it, I plan on making a wooden base with doors and a bucket underneath for a drip system.

Anyway did get it ordered, yea! I almost ended up with a gecko doing it... but I resisted, they put up the cutest pictures it's hard to resist sometimes!

This morning I opened her cage, watered her, all is find, she heard or saw me open the calcium vial container and it was all hissing from there, lol.

She ate great today, I put new crickets in and she was all over them!

I do have a question about ordering my crickets, I need to order again, but it's been cold here, like 20 at night, a little warmer during the day, it's literally a heat wave for us! The last time I ordered half were dead when I got them, I'm guessing due to weather, how can I prevent this? Can I?

I was also wondering, how do we know when Pascal is done growing? How big will she get? Will the MBD stunt her growth does anyone know?

You'll probably want to make a little "shelf" that can go across the top to set the dripper on. The mesh will sag. If it can be made of something that lets light through (wire mesh for instance) that would be great, if not, just keep it as narrow as possible so you aren't blocking lights.

The shipper should be able to put heat packs in with the crickets to keep them warm. They might charge for that, so check their site.

I'm sorry I can't help with the other question.
