So I finally found a vet near me who actually looks at chameleons!! Pretty excited. Is a $80 fee an okay price.? Never been to the vet for a reptile, just dogs and horses. Lol. Just wanted to make sure.

I go to Dr. Tom Greek and he charges me a $55 general exotic fee for a standard appt. His facillity is pretty impressive, but I also live in southern Ca so there is a fair bit more competition than other places. Depending on where you live, it could be fair.

A good vet is important so I guess you don't really have a choice. I'd make sure that they have experience with chameleons before you go. Mine is $50 for the visit and any meds and tests are extra.

Do fecals normally add to the cost or no?

yes they do.'

my vet visits range. he cut me a break when we were gunna do x-rays and stuff(200+) but were ended up not needing them so i got sa vet visit for 45. standard they are 70. i dont have to take my chams in for poop checks and they are 25.

Oh ok, thanks. When doing fecals are the vets only looking for parasites, or is there more to fecals than just that?

Yes fecals are to check for parasites.
my vet requires a $50 examination before treating any new animals, after that it just depends what the issue is, a second exam/ check up is 25. Fecals are 20( I do my own now ) and then whatever cost of meds is if neccesary.

Talk to as many vets as you can. I was able to find one near me who gave free examinations to patients the he hadn't seen before (originally $80). So I took my chams in free of charge! Not saying this will always happen, but its worth a call, right?

Our first visit this week was 95 for the exam, then another 90 in care (hydration, force feed and vitamins.)

Check this abomination out, This be the reason my chameleon still has a respiratory infection.

its all about supply and demand.

$80 does sound a bit high but if hes a legit herp vet those are had to come by. at least for me. i was going to a local vet until my savannah monitor swallowed a screw, he removed it for only a materials charge and the operation went successfully but they put the heat lamp on him far too close after operation and left a NASTY burn. which he denied was any fault of his. then a bit further out i found a "herp" vet. shes got a general idea of herp care. breeds turtles and stuff. but i found her lack of knowledge on chameleons disconcerting.

so ive only really only ever used her to run fecals and induce labor. rather than looking for advice.

the go to guy for advice lives in virginia, you can even ship your animals to him if need be. he charges for over the phone consultation but he really knows his stuff....i cant seem to recall his name, i sure as hell hope ive got that and his number laying around somewhere.

so anyways if its a legit herp vet, $80 is worth it.

shopping around, at least for me isnt an option
