why did i ever bother? (may offend)

This guy doesn't "ipitimize" anything. He admitted his faults and did the right thing. You should probably get off his case.

Good job, Aaron in doing the right thing.

i completely regret ever bringing this creature into my house.
Before i continue, please dont take this as any sort of criticism. I think i was being completely naive when i decided to own one. They are amazing to watch but i struggle to find any other rewards in keeping mine. I think i should stick to dogs. just when i think ive taken care of all the chams needs and requirements, something else pops up!i have spent a considerable amount on it already and i get nothing back. The least rewarding pet i could have ever owned.

I feel for you, people dont really understand how hard it is to take care of reptiles in general. They dont really show signs of n e thing bad until it is too late and things always "pop up". My friend has spend probably about 500 dollars on her chinese water dragon. People should definately research their reptile a considerable amount before they get one, i am so sorry for your strife and for your cham. Hope things get better. :)

I think, you need to get off MY case im not on anyone's case, but merely responding to people's comments.

. . . yes he does!

I think the part that people are offended at is the fact that he seemingly didn't "get" anything out of the experience, and how this person ipitimizes the definition of the notorius impulse reptile buyer. He does get credit for doing for it what he could, which is more than most people usually do on implulse "because it's cool" buys.

Yes HE! didnt get n e thing out of it, every person is different! people need to understand not every one is just like you and wants exactly what you want! :) (not directed towards you btw just wanted to quote what we are tlaking about specifically)

I feel you Aaron on this. In the chameleon world keeping them captive is nothing but a money pit and yeah one thing after another right? If you can just imagine the life you save and the beauty that comes along with it the rewards are endless. Statistically most chameleons in the wild wont live past a year long due to being a food chain item and having no defense mechanisism, in captivity a healty veiled can live up to 6-12 years! with the proper care of course. Continious and proper care for chams is extensive and takes time and money its something you just Want to do and I feel your frustrations thanks for voicing how you feel.

i suppose its just different for everyone. some people view certain things as stressors while others would view the same thing and a healthy challenge, and thats always the way i look at chams. i enjoy the challenge. having something so unique and fragile that depends on me keeps me sane. if i didnt have my cham, id prolly be in a straight jacket in a padded room, foaming at the mouth and in a bordem induced comatose. plus the fact ive had reptiles since i was 3...

I am sorry, but what is offensive about this? Everyone who buys a chameleon thinks it's a cool pet to have (why else would we buy it?) and just because you haven't had reptiles before (some of us don't want snakes and bearded dragons etc) doesn't mean we should be automatically barred from going straight to chams. Ok, he didn't do much research, but let's face it, i am quite sure a lot of people on here didn't either. We learn as we go along. I did a few months research before getting ours, and we still had issues and lost our cham (due to inherited illness). We now have another, but there have been times when i have thought "why are we doing this?". It's natural when times are tough, you are doing your best and come to somewhere like this for guidance, and some people think that they have the right to be rude and are quite mean. I commend him for admitting he no longer wants the cham and has found a new home. It's better than him not caring and leaving it to suffer. I think some people on here have issues and like to feel big by making others feel small.

Im totally offended really and you know why ????????

just because nobody else is !but seriously i got the same thing from a guy i work with he wanted a little veiled so i gave hime one for free i gave him a cage a lights and he still complained and brought it back to me he said it was stupid come on lets think about what he just said now who's stupid?

I can definitely see where he is coming from. I've wanted a chameleon since I was probably 5. I finally now had the $300 or so to purchase the viv and cham. It is still a little unsettling when you go from dogs, who love you pretty much no matter what and show it, to a sweet looking reptile that hates your guts and runs away soon as you open the cage door. You put all this time and effort into raising it and keeping it alive. But something about him keeps drawing me back and I definitely love taking care of him. To each his own.

From my experience working at a pet store (still do) a lot of people come in and like to impulsively buy. A lot of people probably dislike me because I wont sell to just anybody who points a finger at a reptile and wants it. Unless the person really knows their stuff and honestly has the lights and adequate housing, I wont sell it to them. I have seen how places like petco will just sell you an animal and then tell you the wrong info on the reptile and then you end up killing it but thinking you did everything right. People do bring reptiles back to us because of all sorts of reasons, but gladly we take them back cause who knows what will become of the creature if we dont take them in. I guess some people just have to take an animal home to learn either if its good for them or not, but hopefully they are responsible to rehome them to a better place. It is a good thing Aaron was able to find a better home for his chameleon :)

LOL, Who told you guys you could have a big argument without me huh?
I got an 'infraction' whatever that is! Oh well, Somebody traded in free speech or something... point is , Big bad Brad will kick A** if you say something too close to the bone, so be careful.
people seem to take the slightest thing to heart online.
Dont say anything that requires much thought, they wont think about it, they'll just go
medevil on you!
:)

Aaron, I think '(may offend)' should be added to the title of any thread or post ,just in case. What you think? Chameleon Forums owes you a debt of Gratitude!

What's going on here? I'M supposed to be the resident forum jerk, got it?!

I don't think Aaron's post was TOO offensive (saying he's indifferent about the chameleon's fate is definitely against the spirit of this forum though). I do wish it was more detailed about WHY a chameleon is not right for him though, this way anybody who is researching whether a chameleon is the right exotic for them or not could learn a great deal from this thread. In its current state, it seems destined for deletion ;p

:D ROFL

P.S I didnt think his post was offensive in any way either, So chams arnt for him, So what, Are we going to start wringing our hangs now if somebody so much as says the think chameleons are too much bother? The whole hypersensitivity thing is beginning a wear thin. I hope you find a really cool Reptile of Any kind you like Aaron! Maybe Snakes? :)
Happy Herping Dude!

i didnt really realise how hard. now im completely indifferent to its fate.

Yeah I gotta Agree, I dont understand that bit, Maybe hes just angry that it was more involved and less action than thought. I hope that dosent Disuade him from reptiles altogether though, He just started with a difficult one thats all. A beardy or Python might be more rewarding and more straightforward to care for.
Im sure he does care about its fate, he likes animals and he bought it afterall as a pet that he would have taken great care of if he knew how. He has learned something.

i'll say it one more time incase you've missed the earlier posts:

I'm a huge dog lover and grew up with a dog when i lived at my parents. I've become so fond of the dog its practically part of my family. I wouldve got another dog for my new house but wouldnt want to leave it alone as much as i would have to so decided on apet that dosent need much attention. My mistake was in thinking a chameleon would gradually become used to its owner or at least recognise me as friendly. I was SORELY disappointed. It's just too much time and money to invest in something that dosent even want to be looked at!
Perhaps you are right though, maybe a should try a beardie. They actually seem to LIKE human interaction, even though they seem thick as shit.

NO JOKE BEARDIES ARE LIKE MINI DOGS! ha ha ha my firends has one and hes a garbage disposal, insects, fruit, veggies, what ever hell eat it! hes soooo funny. Gl with what ever animal you choose hope you like it :) i frankly have a problem with just about every 1, because no 1 ses it like i do. Let people live how they want, no one is exactly alike another why cant we just be ok with not being alike. People should respect the fact that you dont want a cham and were man enough to admit it AND you actually got it to a good home, Petco just kills their animals! So i dont think you have done n e thing wrong. Dont let people get to you, live your life how you want to, and people................... seriously do you not have n e thing better to do in your life than to bash some one who says he doesnt like something you do. I mean he didnt say all cham owners are g@y or dumb or whatever, he simply said he doesnt like chams. I like chams, but you dont see me trying to make him like em. So yeah just take a massive chill pill. either that or pull the bug out of your A$$.

completely unrelated: I wont be back here for much longer as i will not be owning a chameleon but i must say that everyone here has been great. Aside form one or two, this forum has been a pleasure to be on. Some great people here. Understanding, intelligent and easy going.
