Please help

Yeah I can post some full pictures. And im in fort wayne indiana. Also I wanted to know where I can find silk worms? Can I order them online too because the pet stores here barely have decent super worms. Usually over half are dead. Ive been trying to find a decent store for them. Also you say it would ce better to feed him crickets everyday rather than super worms? I can do that.

crickets and supers can both be gutloaded which is good. Supers are about three times as fattening as crickets which is why they are a not as preferred of a feeder as the crickets. There are a few places to buy silkworms. Mulberry Farms, Coastal Silkworms and there is also Lady Silkworm. You can also try in our classifieds as sometimes members will breed their own feeders and sell them.

I just took this one of eddie. He is about 6 1/2 inches long from his nose to the beginning of his tail.

If he does have mbd it doesn't look too advanced, his legs don't look deformed so I think you might get away with this one.......have you ever taken him out for sunlight at all? Age is just a guess really, all I can say is he looks like a young adult to me, maybe only a bit over a year.....how big was he when you got him?

Also is there any way to tell how old he is? He was a rescue and we dont know how long the other owner had him.

He has not grown at all since I got him. Just gotten fatter.

Yeah I took him out in the run almost everyday when it was home weather but not for about a month now because its gotten cold here. And the shower sounds like a good idea. Im gonna try that. I see him drink but it maybe isnt enough.

All that Sun time is why he's managed without a uv bulb so far. You still need the vitamins (uvb light is what helps them synthesize the calcium and d3). A better (more varied, less fat, better gutloading) diet would be good because he must be at least 2 years old then......there is really no way to be certain with age, it's all guess work mostly based on size really......

Ok wonderful! Ill get on that in the morning. Thank you thank you thank you! One more question. Im new here. Will all this info stay on here for me to refer back to?

I SO appreciate everyones help here. You have all given me great info and ill use each piece till my lil guy is old and....grey? Lol thank you all so so so much!

It's possible that bulb is a UVB, UVA combo. Not all are fluorescent tubes. I've used ZooMed Power Suns before and had success. Can you see any little letter telling you what sort of bulb it is, or better yet, did you keep the box?

You're doing a wonderful thing taking in this chameleon.

How often does Eddie poop? While yellow/orange urate is usually considered a sign of dehydration, it can also just be that he isn't pooping often so the urate has time to dry out in his body. I think in that case you get a very yellow or orange "tip" with white nearer the fecal matter.

I like the look of his cage. I do agree that more plants would help, but then, I love plants in a cage. I'm a huge fan of Pothos plants, you can pin the vines on the cage walls and have great climbing structure that's also good for humidity and edible!

I want to commend you for rescuing this guy and trying to do the right thing. Ignore some of the comments, but listen to 99%, Carol and Dave are awesome people who know veileds.
3 kids and you are still rescuing, good for you!
A couple of tweeks(which it looks like you are on top of) and he will be better than new.
I too dealt with a rescue, Mine had MBD, but it is healthy and great now. They bounce back in the right hands.
Dont let all the info thrown out you get overwhelming, but I agree, UV light, supps are at the top of the list

Thanks you guys im so glad to know its not too late for him. I never ever thought ide have a cham let alone love him so much! He is a real character. I have a house full of rescues. Two dogs three cats and two birds. I think they all feel really lucky to have my home. My oldest rescue max my beagle will be 14 next month. I got him when he was a year old.

It hurts my heart when people get animals then dont take care of them or turn them away because they are no longer little or cute. Eddie looked so pitiful when I got him and he has really snapped back. Im proud to be his mom. :)

No need to insult the last owner when you're still new to chams.

There's still plenty wrong with your info yourself.

The suppliments he should have are
calcium without d3 everyday,
calcium with d3 2x a month,
multivitamins 2x a month,
From his fecal he is dehydrated. It should be white, not yellow or orange. Super worms are not a good staple, they are a treat, crickets and dubias are good staples. Take out the night light. Those are completely useless and will prevent sleep. The temps are supposed to cool down at night, and be dark, 60ish. Don't you have a UVB light? You NEED a uvb or he will die. Get a reptisun 5.0. Testing temps and humidity are vital, get the daytime heat up a bit more. Pics of his enclosure would help.

no need to be rude when this person is trying to do right.
