I NEED HELP ASAP

Nice and what is the distance in between the basking spot to ur heat lamp?better yet, what is the desired temperature for this 5 month old panther cham??

How about 82F,unless ur room is too hot....now what are u going to do on his feeders n supplement like vitamins n calcium stuff?

His feeders will be Crickets, Silkworms, and Mealworms as a treat. Multivitamin 2 times a month, Calcium With D3 2 times a month, and Calcium without D3 3 - 4 times a week.

And are u still going to gutload ur feeder with lettuce?maybe superworm will be slight better for a treat, butter worm too.

y helpful. You have absolutely no idea what is going on. Looking at the pictures I would guess this was a wild caught and you have no idea how dehydrated he became on initial capture, etc., before he came into the care of his owner. Maybe he has kidney failure from capture. Maybe he has kidney failure from chronic dehydration. Regardless, if he has kidney failure--one of the most common problems with captive chameleons and it is often caused by dehydration either acute or chronic--there is probably absolutely nothing you or anyone else can do to save it.

Well, in my defense I think you are missing something major from this thread.

Normally I would agree with you, if he had the cham for a short time and it passed. He has had this chameleon for over a year. So no this was not issues from when it was caught.

OP said for a year, he has given only calcium, with a very loose misting schedule. I have actually read, Chris Andersons posts about solid glass enclosures, however that is a lot different then a 3 side covered enclosure. I have a 3 side walled enclosure and can tell you for a fact, that 60 seconds every 3 hours is not maintaining the 80% humidity that Jackson needs.

I do not think that dehydration is killing his cham, I do think it is not helping however.

I think a lack of supplements and a bad diet is killing this cham. The OP stated he feeds only crickets and Mealworms and dusts with Calcium only. So no MV and no D3, no gutloading either. I dont think these issues happened overnight either, I think this has been happening gradually due to wrong care, over the year he has had the chameleon.

Furthermore the choice to put it down, is one thing. The OP stated that he doesnt have money, IE he is going to what freeze it? squish it?

It could be kidney failure, sure and that was likely not caused during capture but due to poor care. The diet this chameleon had, without supplementation doubtfully provided what was needed IMO.

So what is helpful? To grin and say you are doing everything fine? When he wasnt at all.

And ya I agree not to let something suffer. But he just seen the vet on Saturday, and was giving preformed Vit A and 2 days later puts the cham down?

Crickets will be gut loaded with greens, carrots, and apples
Here are some great option u can pass the info to ur mom when she goes food shopping
Veggies include (but are not limited to) the following:
collard greens
mustard greens
dandelion greens
escarole
endive
carrot greens
green beans
hard squashes
parsley
We will chat later after u get ur new cham.

What is his ambient humidity without misting?

Well taking a wild guess low. If you have your cham indoors then your ambient will be low unless you use a swamp. He already stated he lives in cali, and with the summer heat and central air. My guess would be zero, and he doesn't have a gauge to tell.

Anyway, I say again I do not think that dehydration was the main issue here. I think the issue was a lack of supplements and gutloading.

Just like the vet said, Vit A deficiency.

To go back further than that, he just got the mister. Now that leads the question how was he misting before?

EDIT he isnt in Cali I could of swore he said he was.

Thanks! I am actually calling Kammerflage Kreations right now and they said he will be sent out tomorrow morning.

What sire from KK did you choose? I preordered a Tormund Giantsbane baby and should have him towards end of June. They are wonderful people and their customer services is top notch.

How would his kidney get hurt and I wouldn't notice it for a year and a half. His cage has screen on the top and side for airflow

Kidney failure shows no symptoms until the kidneys can't keep up with amount of toxins they have to remove. There is more kidney than the body needs, which is why a person can donate one kidney and live a normal life. But, suppose the kidneys only remove 99.9% instead of a capacity of 400% of the toxins from the blood. (I have no idea what the capacity of kidneys are, but certainly well over 200% since a person can donate one and go on to live their lives.) Every day there will be an increase of .1% toxins building up in the blood. That's not a lot and the animal (or person) continues on with their life not showing symptoms until slowly the toxins build up to the point of showing symptoms. The kidney failure happened a long time before any symptoms appeared.

I'm just throwing kidney failure out there as an example of what might be wrong because it is so prevalent. Certainly gutloading feeders or multivitamins didn't cause the symptoms you reported.

Umm huh? The symptoms he is describing (and liver and kidney failure) can be caused by a lack of Vitamin A. He also did not give calcium every day, which could cause MBD which would also show some of those symptoms.

The vet himself even stated the issue was a Vit A deficiency. Even getting him un deficient after being deficient for a long time, the damage to his liver and kidneys could have been too bad already. That is 100% caused by poor supplementation and gut loading. It doesn't happen in the wild as as the feeders and variety they see in the wild that have gut loaded themselves.

To be clear on top of all that. The Vet that seen the cham, (Dr Stahl) is a very reputable cham vet. He seen the cham he said it was a Vit A deficiency then my money is on the fact it was 100% that.

Like you said we didnt see the cham, the vet did a really really good vet.
